Giarratana No Longer May Town Developer

The developer for what essentially would be a second downtown for Nashville has stepped away from the project.

In a statement, Tony Giarratana says he is no longer the master developer for May Town Center. The Metro Planning Commission rejected the massive development in the rural Bells Bend area. Giarratana, who has been working on the project for two years, had been hoping to have the commission reconsider its vote. He withdrew that effort last month.

The May family owns about 1,500 acres in Bells Bend. In the written statement, Jack May says without a timeline for the project, it only made sense to end the relationship with the developer.

Giarratana may no longer be the project’s top cheerleader, but he parted ways by maintaining that city needs the development.

In the issued statement, Giarratana says, quote, “Smart sustainable growth in development of the May property is critical to Nashville’s ability to compete for corporate retentions and relocation.”
