GOP Says Rep. Cohen Fractures Civility with “Nazi” Claims

State GOP officials say Memphis Democrat Steve Cohen has gone too far criticizing the Republican-led effort to repeal healthcare reform.

On the House floor this week, Cohen delivered a six-minute speech condemning how the Republicans characterize President Obama’s signature bill. Cohen said the GOP is spreading lies, and likened their use to an often-used term to Nazi propaganda.

“The Germans said enough about the Jews and the people believed it and you had the holocaust. You tell a lie over and over again. And we’ve heard it on this floor – ‘government takeover of health care.’

The state Republican Party issued a statement on Cohen’s speech saying it was “reckless” at a time when political rhetoric should be toned down.
