Gov. Bill Lee has managed to sign more than 300 bills into law this year but still has a lot more to go. Here’s some of the pending legislation that the General Assembly sent him this session.
Legislation addressing third-grade literacy is on the governor’s desk now. The change makes a small tweak to a controversial law passed in 2022. It goes into effect next school year. But parents of current third graders worry their kids could be held back.
Two bills that impact Nashville directly are still waiting to be signed by both the House and Senate speakers before going to the governor. They would give the state a majority of appointments on the airport authority board and just shy of a majority on the sports council.
The Republicans’ comprehensive tax bill shares the same status. It includes a temporary three-month sales tax holiday on groceries and a two-year tax credit for companies that give employees paid family leave.
Gov. Lee has not indicated what action he will take on these bills, but he’s never vetoed legislation before.
