Governor Phil Bredesen says he’s asking state education officials to consider making major changes to the training that teachers receive.
On a conference call with business leaders from around the state today, the Governor said he isn’t convinced that in-service days are consistently useful.
“I remember back when I was Mayor meeting with a bunch of teachers and hearing complaints that they hear this very soft stuff about teaching and what they’re looking for is, you know this, this guy said, look I’m a high school history teacher, I’m supposed to teach the constitution. Tell me what a 10th grader ought to know about the constitution.”
Even though Bredesen’s term as Nashville Mayor ended almost a decade ago, the Metro teachers union says teachers are still complaining about the same thing.
