A small but prestigious meeting has been slated for Nashville. Officials of the National Governors Associationannounced they will come to town for their annual conference in 2014.About a thousand people typically attend, but many more pay attention. This year’s events in Williamsburg, Virginia, were carried on C-SPAN. One of the biggest topics of conversation revolved around Medicaid and whether states would continue to push back against the federal health care overhaul.
A spokesperson for the NGA says a location in Nashville has not been set in stone, but the city’s new convention center is “an option.”
Governor Bill Haslam says in a statement he is looking forward to showcasing the city’s entertainment and cultural options.
Nashville has hosted the NGA’s annual meeting one other time, in 1984.
