Governor Phil Bredesen today named a new Commissioner of Tennessee’s Department of Correction.
George Little has worked in the state’s correction system for more than twenty years. He’s directed the state’s parole board, served as assistant corrections commissioner under Governor McWhorter, and currently directs the Shelby County Corrections division. Little says he has a clear goal for the department.
“I share with Governor Bredesen a vision for a safe, efficient department of correction one that well represents the interests of the citizens of the state and prepares offenders who are returning to the community to successfully come back to the community and hopefully not come back to the department of corrections.”
Little will take office on October third. Until then, Deputy Commissioner Gayle Ray will continue to lead the department. Former commissioner Quentin White resigned amid allegations of ethical misconduct in the prison system.
