A singer set for induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame this year has died. Jim Ed Brown was 81 years old and was diagnosed with lung cancer last fall.
Originally from Arkansas, Brown came on to the scene as part of a group that included his two sisters, Maxine and Bonnie. The trio had a No. 1 hit “The Three Bells” in 1959.
His solo career was best known for songs “Morning” and “Southern Loving” and “Pop-a-Top Again.”
Brown was also a mainstay on country music television shows in the 1970s and 80s and was a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
When it was announced in January that he and his sisters would be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, an emotional Brown said he was cancer free. But last week his daughter said the disease had returned.
