Governor Bill Haslam is pushing back against a report that says he’s involved in the movement to stop Donald Trump from becoming the Republic nominee.
“I’ve expressed concerns about some of the positions that Mr. Trump has taken that I think need to be clarified, or corrected, from what he’s said in the past,” Haslam told reporters Tuesday. “But ultimately, voters in primaries are going to decide what we do.”
Haslam — who has endorsed Senator Marco Rubio — still won’t say whether he would come around to Trump if he gains the nomination.
But he does anticipate a tricky situation because of Trump’s platform.
“There are a lot of positions that Mr. Trump has taken that are distinctively different from the historical Republican platform. So when the platform committee meets — if he’s the nominee — there will be some realignment that will have to happen,” Haslam said.
Haslam did say he’s concerned — not just as a Republican, but as a citizen.
