Dallas Cowboy center Andre Gurode informed the Metro Police Department today that he will not press criminal charges against Tennessee Titan Albert Haynesworth.
Haynesworth stomped on Gurode’s face following a touchdown run during last Sunday’s match up. In a public apology made this afternoon Haynesworth says he still doesn’t know why he did it.
The defensive tackle says he will not appeal the N-F-L’s five game suspension, which is the stiffest penalty ever issued for on-the-field behavior. Haynesworth says the punishment he received was deserved. He says that he hopes to regain respect from the team and fans over time.
“I’m not a big time player. I’m not the face of the NFL. I’m not a Peyton Manning or those guys who are just the big faces that you know. Now Albert Haynesworth is known for something despicable.”
Haynesworth says for the next five weeks he will be watching Titans games from the Martha O’Brien Community Center in East Nashville where he will talk to kids about life’s costly mistakes. Sunday’s incident will cost Haynesworth roughly 190-thousand dollars in lost pay.
Haynesworth admits he has a history with losing his temper on the field. He says he will begin behavior management counseling next week.
Gurode received nearly thirty stitches to close the gash on his forehead and above his eye but has been cleared to play this week. Haynesworth says he has also issued a personal apology but did not give the details of the conversation with Gurode.
Haynesworth is scheduled to meet with N-F-L officials next week.
