Democrat Roy Herron is attacking his opponent in the 8th District congressional race for vowing to not work with the Obama Administration.
Republican candidate Stephen Fincher’s line is, “when you’re in the middle of the road, you get hit from both directions.” In public speeches, the Crockett County farmer has said he won’t reach across the aisle as long as Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are in charge. However, Fincher also says he’s willing to stand up to his own party, if need be.
But State Senator Roy Herron is jumping on the comments, saying bi-partisanship is the answer to the country’s biggest problems.
“Ladies and gentlemen, if that’s a sin, I’m a sinner. I’ve never accomplished anything in the legislature, except I’ve worked with people in both parties. Anything that’s hard to do, it takes people in both parties working together.”
Herron spoke at a fundraiser outside the 8th District in Nashville. Even though almost no one at the event can vote for Herron in November, he says the outcome of the race should be important to every Tennessean.
Stephen Fincher has also held fundraisers outside the 8th District, in Memphis. The two are neck and neck in the money race, at least through the last reporting period. But Herron has nearly 400 donors from Nashville. Fincher counts just two, and one is former Governor Winfield Dunn.
