With temperatures rising above 100 degrees this week, organizations for the elderly and disabled, are keeping a close eye on temperatures in people’s homes.
Meals on Wheels delivers lunches to homebound senior citizens and the disabled who are alone in the heat of the day.
Elaine Rawlings is a Meals on Wheels a volunteer in Murfreesboro. She says while she delivers food she also makes sure fans and air conditioners are working.
“In this hot weather like today, even though I didn’t ask them about their air conditioners, I was very conscious of each home that I went into that it felt like it was working. You know we’re just trying to look out for them.”
Rawlings says if volunteers find an air conditioner not working on their route, they help the resident contact organizations that can help.
