Fewer people will travel through Nashville International Airport this Thanksgiving week than last year, but getting there could be more difficult anyway.
A 19-month road construction project has officials diverting traffic from the airport loop. Spokeswoman Emily Richard says drivers may want to take a different exit.
“We’ve got construction signage and equipment and machinery and workers throughout ring road, so we’re encouraging people to go one exit further if they’re coming from downtown and take 216 b.”
Once inside Nashville International, travelers will notice a consolidated security checkpoint which gets its first holiday test this week. The renovation was partly for speed with separate lines dedicated to experienced travelers and to families with children.
The airport expects a total of 122-thousand ticketed passengers for the week, which is down roughly 10-percent from last year. The busiest air travel day will be Sunday with 15-thousand boarding planes. That’s off of last year’s peak by a thousand travelers.
