Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton announced the members of a special redistricting committee Thursday. The 16-member committee will have four Democrats, including Minority Leader Karen Camper from Memphis.
While the date for the first committee meeting hasn’t yet been scheduled, Sexton says the inclusion of both Republicans and Democrats on the committee will lead to redistricting plans that are both fair and constitutional.
“The makeup of this panel is representative of the distinctive voices of Tennesseans from across all three grand divisions of our state,” he said in a prepared statement.
The redistricting effort takes place every 10 years after each U.S. census. It will mean changes to all of the House’s 99 district.
Deputy Speaker Curtis Johnson of Clarksville will chair the committee.
