Tennessee sports legend Pat Summitt made an appearance in Nashville at Parnassus Books this afternoon. A couple hundred orange-clad fans lined up past the shop’s door, all eager to get a signed memoir from the UT women’s basketball icon.

One longtime fan showed up with a 1970 yearbook from Cheatham County High, where Summitt was a senior, then known as Patricia Head.
High-school point guard Tamara Cloud rode down with family from Clarksville, saying “I always wanted to play for her, but since she’s retired it’s kind of a bummer, so I guess this is the next best thing, to meet her and read her book.”
Stephen Osborne, a Tennessee fan for decades, said moments after meeting Summitt “she seemed to be having a pretty good day, and it made my day… No one – it’s going to take probably fifty years for someone to beat her record and be as great as she is.”
Osborne compared Summitt to an icon of Alabama football, calling her “the Bear Bryant of UT.”
