The Nashville Fire Department says it got word of the blaze at 2:20 p.m.
Fire officials announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they’ve “mitigated the immediate threat,” and they expect the interstate to reopen this evening. They say the radioactive material in the truck was “low-grade” and was only in the waste’s packaging.
NFD crews are working to cover areas of the semi with tarp and move it approx. 300 ft to clear the lane. @THPNashville, commercial inspectors, the shipping company and other authorities are on the way- to perform inspections to ensure the semi is safe for travel from the scene.
