Pfc. David Jefferson of Philadelphia was traveling through Kandahar on-foot when his patrol came across an improvised explosive device. The 23-year-old served in the 2nd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division. He enlisted exactly two years ago.
Jefferson leaves behind a wife and son.
NATO troops are coming off the most deadly month to-date in the Afghanistan War. At least 54 Americans were killed in June. Twenty-one of them were from Fort Campbell.
Another Fort Campbell soldier was killed Thursday in Afghanistan. The Department of Defense says Sgt. 1st Class Kristopher Chapleau died from a non-combat related incident. The 33-year-old Kentucky native was assigned to the 101st Airborne’s 1st Brigade.
