Middle Tennessee’s deadly flood received a Major Disaster Declaration from the federal government, opening up more opportunities for aid for those affected.
If you, your home or your business were impacted by the floods, here’s how to apply for help, or see if you qualify.
For residents:
Individuals can access assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov to apply online, or call the application phone number at 1-800-621-3362 between 6 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Central Time. Multilingual operators are available.
To apply for assistance from FEMA, you will need:
- Social Security number
- Daytime telephone number
- Current mailing address and address and zip code of the damaged property
- Insurance information, if available
Through the U.S. Small Business Administration, homeowners can apply for disaster loans up to $200,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed homes. Homeowners and renters are also eligible for up to $40,000 to repair property damaged or destroyed in the flood.

For workers:
If your job was impacted because of the flooding, you can apply for Disaster Unemployment Assistance, which provides temporary unemployment benefits to workers, or self-employed people, who lost their job or weren’t able to go to work because of the flooding.
You can apply for disaster unemployment by going to 711 Holly Lane, or by visiting the mobile American Job Center at McEwen High School. Or apply online at www.Jobs4TN.gov.
For businesses:
Businesses of any size can borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace buildings, equipment or machines damaged by the flooding. Business owners can apply by visiting the recovery center at Waverly City Hall, or by calling the SBA’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955, or by emailing [email protected]. Loan applications can be downloaded at sba.gov/disaster.
