Installing Tens of Thousands of Lights Will Take Hundreds of Volunteers

20-thousand pounds of things like copper tubes, glass spheres and fiber-optic lights have been delivered to Cheekwood. They’re the unassembled pieces of artist Bruce Munro’s massive summer exhibit of light sculptures. And setting them up will be one of the biggest undertakings in the museum and garden’s history, requiring hundreds of volunteers.

The work isn’t glamorous—lots of hauling boxes and laying cables–but first-time volunteer Katie Crawley jumped at the chance to have a hand in making something beautiful.

Cheekwood turned to Hands On Nashville for help spreading the word about nearly 400 morning and afternoon work shifts it will take to install the exhibit. The initial response has filled more than half, but more helpers are still needed.
