Job openings in information technology are up 41 percent in Nashville, according to an informal survey by the Nashville Technology Council.
NTC board member, David Condra, compiled the survey by reviewing job posting websites and large employer websites.
He found 802 IT jobs advertised online in 2006, up from 569 last year.
Condra released the results at yesterday’s annual Technology! Nashville conference.
Jeff Costantine says the trend is welcomed news after considerably lower numbers from 2002 to 2004.
Costantine, the President of the Nashville Technology Council says now the challenge is to make sure the supply meets the demand.
“The real problem in the colleges today is we’ve seen a drop off of about 35 percent in the computer science field and so we really need to begin telling our story as to the opportunities.”
Costantine says the rise in IT job openings is partially due to headquarter relocation and business expansion in Nashville.
