The Nashville Music Council handed out a new award over the weekend meant to honor a Middle Tennessee resident in the music industry who demonstrates the area’s “creative climate” and “musical diversity.”

Mayor Karl Dean names Jack White a musical ambassador for Nashville.
The first recipient of the Music City Ambassador Award is Jack White of Third Man Records, The White Stripes and The Raconteurs.
Mayor Karl Dean says White “bridges gaps between genres and generations.”
Mary Ann McCready is co-chair of the music council and says Jack White and Third Man calling Nashville “home” is a testament that the city holds an ideal culture for what she calls the “cream of the creative class.”
