Tennessee democrats will meet tomorrow for the party’s annual Jackson Day dinner in Nashville.
In a presidential election year with the democratic nominee still uncertain, party leaders have chosen Governor Phil Bredesen as their keynote speaker. Bredesen is one of the party’s superdelegates and remains uncommitted as to whether he’ll cast a ballot for New York Senator Hillary Clinton or Illinois Senator Barak Obama. Additionally, the Nashville Post website reports that Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill will make an appearance as an “unnannounced” speaker. McCaskill co-chairs the Obama campaign.
The Democratic National Party is also coming together tomorrow night in what is been dubbed a “unity dinner.” Both democratic events happen the same day that the party’s rules committee meets to determine whether to include votes from the Florida and Michigan primaries. Those states violated party rules by moving up their primary elections and the ballots that were cast weren’t counted.
The Tennessee Republican Party will be having its annual ‘Statesman Dinner’ fundraiser July 26th. Former Deputy Chief of Staff for the Bush Administration, Karl Rove, is scheduled to be the keynote speaker. And presidential candidate John McCain will conduct a town hall meeting at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium Monday evening.
