Ending months of speculation, charter school founder Jeremy Kane has officially thrown his hat in the ring to be Nashville’s next mayor.
The 35-year-old former CEO of LEAD charter schools made the announcement in a news release, with this video.
He joins Metro councilwoman Megan Barry, attorney Charles Bone and former school board chairman David Fox, though others are also expected to enter the race to succeed Mayor Karl Dean.
In April, former President Bill Clinton appeared in Nashville at Kane’s request. Clinton spoke to students from LEAD’s five charter schools and an invitation-only audience.
In May, Kane attended a panel with U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Listen below to the answer Kane gave to WPLN’s Emily Siner at the event, when she asked him how a mayoral candidate who is pro-charter could reach out to those who resist charter schools.
