JetBlue Airways announced today it is canceling service to and from Nashville. The discount airline began offering three flights to New York City just last year. The company will eliminate flights to Nashville and Columbus, Ohio beginning January 6th. Dave Barger, JetBlue’s CEO made the announcement during today’s 3rd Quarter meeting.
“These markets did not mature as well as we had expected and we have decided to redeploy our aircraft more profitably. These were very, very difficult decisions for us, primarily due to the impact they have on our outstanding crew members in these cities and our commitment to the communities we serve.”
Nashville Airport officials say being dropped from JetBlue’s route is not a reflection of Nashville as a destination. Airport spokeswoman Emily Richard says air traffic through to the city is up 3 percent over last year.
