The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit in Nashville today against Murphy Development, LLC, for failing to provide adequate accessibility to disabled people.
The lawsuit says seven of Murphy’s complexes aren’t up to code, and violate the Fair Housing Act by discriminating against the disabled. The complaint says paths at some of the complexes are too steep for wheelchairs, while others lack appropriate walkways.
The department is seeking a court order to force owners to modify the complexes, as well as monetary compensation for victims.
