Private equity giant Kolhberg Kravis Roberts and Company is reportedly taking steps to launch an initial public offering of stock for Dollar General.
The Goodletsville-based discount retailer is described by the Wall Street Journal as one of KKR’s best performing assets. The private equity firm executed a $7 billion leveraged buyout of Dollar General in 2007.
The retailer has posted surging profits through the economic recession. The most recent quarter brought in $83 million . That’s up from profits of less than $6 million a year prior.
