Tennessee State University has been under fire after a state audit recommended getting rid of top management positions at the school. Lawmakers are considering taking another approach.
A joint committee with the General Assembly was presented with the audit from the comptroller’s office this morning.
Highlights were that TSU needs more student dorms and off-campus housing to accommodate the record-breaking enrollment and that the University has poor fiscal management.
The Board of Trustees has agreed to make changes suggested in the audit. Most of them require more frequent reporting.
In response, the joint committee is recommending that TSU’s Board of Trustees be extended for one year.
The extension is a win for the university, which was opposed to many of the recommendations that could have gotten rid of the Board of Trustees and some school administrators.
The full joint committee will meet at later date to vote on the recommendation.
