The bars of Lower Broadway attract thousands on weekend nights, and Robert’s Western World is among the most venerated by locals and tourists alike.
So Andrew Kingery, a bouncer (or as Robert’s calls him, a “doorman”) who usually works Friday and Saturday nights, has pretty much seen it all.
We caught up with Kingery to find out — in 90 seconds — what it’s like working the crowds, fending off unwanted advances, and keeping a rowdy honky-tonk under control:
Lower Broadway has been the source of some disgruntlement lately, unrelated to rowdy bar-hoppers. A Nashville councilwoman recently proposed an ordinance that would forbid new businesses without a music or a hefty Nashville merchandise section. That didn’t sit well with Walgreens, which wants to set up shop on Third and Broadway.
