A documentary called Kilowatt Ours debuts on Nashville Public Television Friday night. The energy conservation film will be seen in 50 other markets over the next few weeks, including some of the nation’s largest cities.
The film condemns destructive coal mining practices and highlights creative approaches to conservation underway in Tennessee, Texas and California.
Nashville film-maker Jeff Barrie produced Kilowatt Ours four years ago. He says his aim is to make conservation disciples of those who watch his first documentary.
“We’re hoping that people will see the film on TV, that they’ll get the DVD and will take Kilowatt Ours into their own communities and show it to church groups, and their companies and their places of employment, do house parties and community screenings.”
Barrie spoke from a hotel room in Virginia with the lights off. He says he saves kilowatt hours wherever he can.
Mayor Karl Dean will address a group screening the film (tomorrow/Thursday) night. He plans to outline his vision to make Nashville the greenest city in the Southeast.
