Alan Lequire stands by one of many of his “Monumental Figures” at the LeQuire Gallery
In 1990, local sculptor Alan LeQuire unveiled Nashville’s own statue of Athena at the Parthenon in Centennial Park. Now, he’s unveiling his latest exhibit which he says honors the women who shaped his life.
“Monumental Figures,” features a collection of sculptures, some reaching 12 feet in height. They include such icons as Simone Biles and Joan Baez, as well as local legend Dorothy Brown — the first African American female surgeon in the South. In this feature, This Is Nashville visited Mr. LeQuire to discuss his approach and how both Athena and his latest works came to be.
