The Tennessee Titans say second-year quarterback Jake Locker will be their starter this year. Veteran passer Matt Hasselbeck started last year, ending the season with a record of 9-7.
Coach Mike Munchak confirmed the announcement after practice Monday, saying that Locker gives the team the best chance to win the AFC South.
Locker says he’s proud to earn the first-string job after a year as back-up.
“It’s the fulfillment of a childhood dream. To be able to call my dad and talk to my mom and dad and let ‘em know was pretty cool.”
Locker will start Thursday’s preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Matt Hasselbeck – who is entering his 14th NFL season – says it’s hard to lose the top job, but that he’s also “excited” for Locker.
