Marriott has been chosen to operate the hotel connected to a proposed downtown convention center. That means the hotel chain will have a lock on the downtown convention business.
Renaissance Hotel, which is tied to the old convention center, is also a Marriott brand. Attached to the new Music City Center will be a one thousand-room high-rise branded as a Marriott Marquis.
Marriott beat out six other hotel chains. John Fleming is GM at the Renaissance and says the announcement is a big win for the chain because the hotels can work together instead of competing for business.
“In conjunction with our sister hotel, it’s going to be a lot easier for us to sell together, to market together and in cooperation with the CVB, to move forward to fill the hotels and the convention center.”
The Convention and Visitors Bureau is already lining up conventions for the Music City Center, which has not yet received final approval from the Metro Council.
