Rep. Marsha Blackburn says her priority is for Donald Trump to become commander-in-chief — not for her to be chosen as his vice president. Recent speculation has mentioned Blackburn as a possible running mate, including a list released by the political newspaper The Hill this week.
Washington publications have highlighted how Blackburn is a regular on political Sunday talk shows, where she is a staunch defender of Trump. The Brentwood Republican says she is open to serving as Trump’s number two.
“Individuals that are involved in public service would not say no to such an opportunity. My goal is to make certain that Donald Trump becomes President Donald Trump,” Blackburn said.
Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., is also considered a top prospect. But Blackburn says she doubts that she or anyone from Tennessee will be selected as the running mate. She expects Trump to pick someone from a state that is not so solidly Republican.
However, Blackburn also points out that Trump has “proven himself to be atypical” as a presidential candidate.
