The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles unveiled plans Thursday to establish a satellite display in Nashville. The interactive exhibit targets school children. It’s meant to explain the process of turning music into a recording.
The plan calls for housing the display in Municipal Auditorium beside the recently relocated Musicians Hall of Fame. Mayor Karl Dean wants the Metro Council to help with the funding.
“To make all of this possible, I am recommending that the city contribute $1 million to help the Grammy Museum build out space that’s already in this building,” Dean said.
Dean sees the contribution as an investment that would pay off by adding another music-themed destination for tourists. If approved by the Metro Council, the exhibit could be ready by August.
Private donors will pitch in between $500,000 and $1 million as well, according to Dean. Already, record executive Mike Curb has committed $100,000.
The Grammy organization plans to open a similar satellite museum in the Mississippi Delta this fall.
