Mayor Prepares for 8th First Day Festival

The Mayor’s office gets frequent requests from local businesses that want to join the Mayor’s Honor Roll.

This is a list that recognizes local employers who give their workers time off to take their children to the first day of school.

In a press conference today Purcell, along with representatives from five businesses on the honor roll, encouraged more employers to join the 209 currently the list.

“When employers step up and support their employees on that first day of school, the schools benefit. But what our business community knows is that our businesses benefit because they have happier, more productive workers who are better at their job, not just the first day, but everyday.”

The First Day Festival celebrating the beginning of the school year will be on Sunday August 12th at the Sommet Center.

Schools reopen on August 13th.
