Nashville’s largest nursing home is back in good standing with the state Health Department and federal Medicare officials.
McKendree Village was cited by state inspectors for fire hazards, substandard care and poor communication with residents and their families in fall 2007. The facility lost Medicare reimbursements before years end and two-thirds of its patients moved out.
Carrie Ermshar of the Tennessee Association of Homes and Services for the Aging credits — in part — McKendree’s size that helped it weather the storm.
“For the past 13 months they have continued providing their programs and services without the government reimbursement that is what keeps most facilities alive.”
McKendree is one of just two Tennessee nursing homes to come back from the loss of federal funding since the state stepped up monitoring in 2007.
Some patients did remain in McKendree’s 300 bed nursing home, but they have been paying out of pocket. The recertification allows patients who moved out to return.
