Medacta HQ Adds Medical Devices To Nashville Health Care Industry

A Swiss maker of implantable medical devices is moving its U.S. headquarters from Chicago to Franklin. The company represents a sector that has been largely absent from Nashville’s health care industry.

Medical devices are a
$156 billion industry, and they have a
heavy presence in Memphis, home to
47 medical device companies. But medical devices have been largely missing in Nashville’s health care business, which focuses more on hospitals and surgery centers.

Medacta USA makes artificial hips and knees and spinal fusion hardware, and its leadership does see benefits in the local business environment.

“The Greater Nashville area combines a deep talent pool in the health care and tech space with close proximity to some of the world’s best orthopedic researchers and practitioners at leading medical institutions,” Matthew Goudy, Medacta USA general manager, says in a statement.

He also cites quality of life for employees as reason for relocating from Chicago.

Medacta will move 50 headquarters jobs over the next five years, investing roughly $2.5 million at a facility in Cool Springs.
