National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Rose says the tornado traveled from the southwest at the Alabama border to the northeast at the Kentucky border.
“The supercell traveled along a 140 mile path just in Middle Tennessee. Now, it’s longer than that because we know it hit West Tennessee and we know probably traveled into Kentucky, so the actual track is longer than that probably, but the tornado path was not continuous, it skipped.”
Most communities had ample warning Tuesday that severe storms were coming.
Forecasters had warned for days that severe weather was possible. The National Weather Service issued more than a thousand tornado warnings from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday in the eleven-state area where the weather was heading.
