Five disaster assistance centers are now open and helping flood victims in Nashville. The centers are one-stop shops for those affected by this disaster.
They can receive free legal advice, get help filling out their federal assistance application, and connect with social services. Also, some of the centers are providing free tetanus shots, clothes, bedding, shoes and more. Kia Churchwell lives in East Nashville near the Cumberland River and was flooded late Sunday night. Wednesday she visited the center and couldn’t hold back very grateful tears.
“I just seen all this stuff laid out I just started crying. I’m just very appreciative. I’m one who always wants to help people and it’s kind of hard being on the other end because I know I need help.”
The centers are being run by dozens of volunteers. They’ll be open from ten in the morning until six at night for the next few days. Centers are located at the Bellevue, Coleman, Hadley, Hermitage and East Community Centers.
