The Metro Finance department has a call out for new ways to care for Nashville’s indigent patients as General Hospital struggles financially.
A request for proposals put out this week directs health care consultants to bring their preliminary ideas by March 9th.
The selected firm would then have 120 days to craft a plan for handling patients who can’t pay for their own health care. The RFP’s goal is to relieve stress on General Hospital, which received $33 million in city funding this year. The facility has seen consistent deficits in recent years, but Mayor Karl Dean says the city won’t make-up for the hospital’s deficit this year.
The RFP asks for new health care models that meet the needs of underserved and indigent citizens in “a more cost effective manner.”
