The Nashville Metro Police Department is adding four detectives to its Domestic Violence Division. Three of the detectives will start next week, with the fourth coming in September.
This brings the division back to fourteen officers, the highest number since July of 2004. Since that time, the division had shrunk to just ten. The department blamed promotions, retirement, and military leave for that decrease.
Last year, Metro Police investigated more than 17,000 domestic violence calls. 3,000 hundred of those calls were assigned to division detectives for a follow-up.
