Metro teachers can now log on to a “You Tube” style website for help in the classroom. MNPS Tube, or “M Tube” as it’s called, is stocked with about 400 short videos of teaching methods that have proven effective.
The site has everything from clever ways to teach math or science to workshops teachers may have missed. Norman Merrifield has been working on getting “M Tube” up and running for about a year.
“It tears down the walls. Teachers are with kids all day they can’t come to your room and see a good practice. They can’t go across town and see somebody doing something fantastic.”
One of his favorite videos is of a creative seventh-grade science teacher who constructed a giant inflatable plastic cell complete with paper mache cell parts. In the video children are walking around inside the cell as the teacher explains how she did it.
(From Video) “It’s just basic plastic with mailing tape and a regular fan and we inflated it. It’s 20 feet in diameter.”
The teachers showcased on “M Tube” are Metro teachers who have been recommended by their principals.
