MTSU Poll: Obama Support In Tennessee Keeps Sliding

As President Barack Obama heads to Tennessee Thursday, he will arrive in a state where nearly twice as many people disapprove of his job performance as approve. New polling from MTSU finds the President continues to lose ground.

President Obama’s approval rating stands at 30 percent, down slightly from spring of last year. MTSU poll director Ken Blake says the long view is more telling.

“If you look at the overall trend for as long as we’ve been tracking the President’s approval rating, there’s been just this sort of slow but steady slide.”

Obama has even lost support from Tennesseans who identify themselves as Democrats. Last year, more than three-quarters gave the President a thumbs up. Now support has dropped to two-thirds among the President’s party.

Still, Air Force One is touching down in a bright spot. MTSU pollsters find a concentration of approval for Obama in Davidson County.
