Classes have resumed at Middle Tennessee State University after a campus lockdown around lunchtime because of a shooting.
Spokesman Tom Tozer says a suspect is in custody.
“Two men had gotten into some kind of an argument over near one of our buildings – the business and aerospace building. One man pulled a gun and shot, and I have come to learn that it was a ricochet that then injured the other man’s hand.”
Neither man’s name has been released, nor have officials confirmed if they are MTSU students.
Student Jenny Lee says she was inside the business and aerospace building when police ordered an evacuation.
“I was a little shocked that someone would bring a gun onto the campus and a little worried about where the guy was.”
Six Rutherford County schools near MTSU were also put on lockdown as a precaution.
Guns are banned on college campuses in Tennessee. A bill in the state legislature that would have allowed faculty members and off-duty police officers to carry weapons failed in 2009.
