Nashville-based Bridgestone/Firestone announced today that its research center will remain in Akron, Ohio. The company had been considering moving the facility to Murfreesboro.
It’s not clear what sort of incentive package was offered for a move here, but the city of Murfreesboro lobbied aggressively with help from state and county officials, as well as Middle Tennessee State University and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
Firestone was founded in Akron. The research facility, which employs 1-thousand people, is the tire maker’s largest remaining presence there. The state of Ohio reportedly gave 68-million dollars in incentives to discourage
