Contractors are working 7-day weeks with as many as 180 men to complete the new downtown Nashville transit station in time for the grand opening. Buses will begin rolling through the multi-level hub one month from today.
Music City Central sits on the corner of 4th and Charlotte Avenue next to Municipal Auditorium. It replaces the Metro Transit Authority’s outdoor hub on Deaderick Street. The new site includes indoor waiting areas, a public plaza and even a Dunkin Donuts.
Titus Rodriguez gave tours today as workmen finished concrete and installed fixtures. He points to one of the smaller amenities – a ramp alongside several flights of stairs with a groove for bikes.
“They can actually put the bike on there and wheel it up the stairs. So, they’re trying to think of different things to facilitate use with ridership.”
60-percent of all passengers transfer to a connecting bus downtown. An estimated 20-thousand people will travel through Music City Central on a given weekday.
MTA is stepping up security at the new station, enforcing a code of conduct. It will also be policed by surveillance cameras and 24 hour security.
