The Nashville Chapter of the NAACP wants answers about the news media’s portrayal of the black community.
The chapter is hosting a town hall meeting tomorrow afternoon with media representatives, education, corrections, and juvenile court officials.
Staff member Dr. Robert Elliott says the group hopes to get an answer to at least one major complaint.
“At the 5, 6, and 10 o’clock, the lead in for the urban community is always crime. It’s never education, it’s never good families, it’s never how many Obama like families do we have in the community? It’s how many dysfunctional families do we have?”
The town hall meeting begins at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon in Fisk University’s Jubilee Hall. NAACP representatives say the town hall’s success depends on the willingness of the audience to question how local media cover urban issues.
