Flood damage is widespread across West and Middle Tennessee. In Nashville, strong waters hit areas west and south of the city particularly hard. Along with homes, numerous hotels and apartment complexes were forced to evacuate.
The Marina Manor apartments sit directly down slope from Ellington Parkway in East Nashville. Late Sunday morning, runoff collecting on the parkway spilled into the apartments. More than fifty families were evacuated. Twenty apartments are now a total loss.
Some of the units are Section 8 and many residents don’t have renters insurance. Latasha Hall is one of those. She made her way back to her apartment Monday to see what she could salvage and found most everything was destroyed.
“I got all my clothes out ‘cause I washed them so they’re clean. Well most of them. We had a bunch of worms and spiders jump out of my clothes trying to wash them. The computer flipped over. The table was flipped, my kitchen table. The refrigerator was flipped, the trash can flipped, just a bunch of mud everywhere.”
Hall left for work Sunday morning at around 7. Just a few hours later a friend text messaged her saying her apartment was underwater. A manager at the complex says they still don’t know whether or not they’ll try to salvage the apartments or tear it down.
