Nashvillians used a record-breaking amount of energy yesterday because of the hot weather.
Nashville Electric Service officials say residents and businesses used about three thousand megawatts of energy, almost one hundred more than this time last year.
Because customers are using more energy, their bills have increased.
NES spokesperson, Laurie Parker, says one of the biggest money-savers on its tip-list is slightly increasing the temperature on your thermostat.
“For each degree that you raise it over 78 degrees, you’re going to be saving more than five percent each degree on your cooling cost, so it really does add up. So if you can stand being a little bit uncomfortable you’re going to see the savings in your energy bill.”
Parker says energy use today might break yesterday’s record.
