Tuesday some Nashville Electric Service customers got a surprise in their inboxes.
About 5,700 accounts in the Bellevue/West Nashville area received bills much higher than they ought to have been. While some only saw a $40 increase, others received bills as high as $1,500, ten times higher than normal.
The bills were sent as a result of a programming error, which has been fixed, according to a spokesperson. Only people receiving electronic bills were affected.
Corrected bills were sent out this morning.
