The Nashville Film Festival opens tonight with The Deal, starring William H. Macy, who is also scheduled to make an appearance. Several of the screenings throughout the week have Nashville connections.
A documentary by journalist and director Barry Simmons chronicles two Kenyan brothers at Vanderbilt Medical School who were sent by their village to study medicine.

The Ochieng brothers plan to return and finish a clinic their father started building before dying of AIDS, in Sons of Lwala.
Another film, Prophet Rising, profiles a fundamentalist group of Christian prophets in Nashville. Urban Assault: Escape from Poverty shines a spotlight on the poor and homeless of Nashville.
And the film A Nashville State of Mind showcases a new genre of musicians that are calling Music City home.
“Friends will ask, can you send me a couple good bands from Nashville, and I’ll send them a link for about 40 people.”
The festival runs through April 24th at Regal Green Hills Cinemas.
